How I overcame laziness with indoor sports

Sometimes you just wake up and realise that your life is not what you want. Maybe you believe you have no life, no friends and no career. That is how I felt 12 months ago and now I feel amazing, because my life has changed so much, so quickly.

What did I do? Did I win lotto? No. I joined an indoor sports club and started playing indoor netball, beach volleyball and even cricket. I didn’t realise that an indoor sports centre was such a great place for social events and parties.

So let me tell you what happened and maybe my story will inspire you to get out, get a life and meet new people.

Why indoor sports was the answer

My epiphany came when I realized that I was bored, unhappy and generally unfit. So I thought long and hard about what I could change in my life. What could I do that would help me meet new people, make new friends and get fit? I came up empty. If I could meet new people, then maybe I could sort out other parts of my life.

The change came when one of my few friends asked me to go to the local indoor sports centre with him for a game of cricket. It turned out that he played every week on a team and they were one player down. So he thought I might like to go along and join his team.

It wasn’t cricket, it was indoor netball - he told me it was cricket to get me out of the house. Can you imagine that? Not cricket, but indoor netball. I was going to say no, but then I realised he was right - it would get me out of the house and stop me feeling so lazy.

So I went along with my friend on a Thursday night for a game of indoor netball. I knew nothing about the game, but it turns out that the rules aren’t that difficult to remember.

And I had a blast. I knew that I wasn’t fit, but that first game really took the wind out of me. So I kept on going every week and all of a sudden, before I knew it, I had new friends and I felt so much better about myself. I even found a girlfriend who played beach volleyball, so now I hit the court with her on the weekends as well.

I have met so many different people and all because I got out of the house, stopped being lazy and went to the local indoor sports centre. I never knew that it was a great place for social events, but we have had some great parties at the centre – we even celebrated my birthday there.

So if you are feeling lazy or you want to make some new friends, head down to your local indoor sports centre and have a game of indoor netball, beach volleyball or cricket. You will be surprised at how quickly you will feel so much better about yourself.

This is my story. I will highly suggest you to find an indoor sports centre if you are downcast. It is easy. Since I and my friend live in Brisbane so he took me to the Sports Centre – ozsports.com which is supposed to be one of the best in and around our area. My own experience confirms it. But if you live outside Brisbane and its suburbs, Google "indoor sports center" or ask your friends. Be sure to read reviews first before you join. You will relish the transformation.
